(1 Sep 2020) Police made at least six arrests on Tuesday after Extinction Rebellion climate change protestors sat down in the road and blocked traffic outside the Houses of Parliament.
Several thousand protestors have marched from different areas of London to converge on Parliament Square, where a large police presence enforced strict legislation which made it illegal to protest anywhere else other than the green at Parliament Square.
The protesters marched around Parliament Square and when police formed a cordon to try to direct people back onto the green protestors sat in the road and blocked traffic.
Large numbers of police quickly moved in and arrests started taking place.
Protestor Gill James from Wanstead in East London said the government had taken the science behind Covid-19 seriously, they now needed to take the science behind climate change seriously and get on with the job of solving the crisis.
