Using Diapers in the Garden? Sodium Polyacralate in garden pots....
Sodium polyacrylate is added to potted plants and soils to allow them to retain moisture. It behaves as a water reservoir, soaking up excess water and discharging it when required. Florists use sodium polyacrylate to preserve water and help retain the freshness of flowers. You can buy it in gardening supply centers and online. It also comes in various products including baby diapers.
Here we experiment using two of the same age plants, one into a pot with one diapers worth of the polymer and the other in regular garden dirt. I'll keep an eye on these over the next week and see which performs better or if they perform the same.
I have almost no knowledge of sodium polyacralate as is applies to gardening and safety. Many people say it is perfectly safe others say it is as bad as plastic. I'm looking into more info on this, therefore I am not recommending it's use at this time, this is simply an experiment to discover potential benefits.
