(1 Feb 2017) Members of the New York chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) joined with New York City officials to speak on the importance of Muslim women's right to wear hijabs in public.
The event, on the steps of City Hall, drew dozens of supporters to help celebrate World Hijab Day.
The day, founded in 2013 by New Yorker Nazma Khan, started in reaction to Muslim women being harassed for wearing the head covering used by some women who practice Islam.
Over the weekend President Donald Trump temporarily banned the entry of refugees and nearly all citizens from seven Muslim-majority countries.
