Borough: London Borough of Greenwich
Date filmed: 17/11/2019
Location: Charlton Lane, Charlton
A level crossing with two rather new full road-width barriers located in Charlton. It retains rather rare external mechanical bells to this day which are loud. Whenever bells are used at a level crossing in the UK, they're often a lot quieter and inside the barrier boxes, so this is actually quite iconic for a level crossing in the UK.
In this video, there is no train at all! After around 2 and a half minutes after lowering, the barriers raise again - this was because of a trespasser up the line at Plumstead which stopped all services through this crossing for over an hour. This was the only footage I managed to record of this crossing on this date as a result.
Thanks for watching!
