Avery Ince, MD, PhD is Vice President, Medical Affairs, Cardiovascular & Metabolism at the Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson & Johnson. Most recently, Avery
served as the U.S. Scientific & Medical Affairs Strategy Head at Janssen North America and prior to that role, as Vice President of Medical Affairs at Janssen China. Prior to his career at Johnson & Johnson, Avery oversaw Pharmacovigilance and Medical Affairs
for Merck, Taiwan and later Merck, China across a wide range of therapeutic areas.
Avery graduated from Brown University with an undergraduate degree in Biomedical Engineering, and then went on to earn an MD and a PhD in Cell & Structural Biology from
the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He completed a three-year Internal Medicine residency followed by a 3-year Endocrine fellowship, both at Harvard Medical School-Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He also held a faculty position with clinical
and research responsibilities at Harvard Medical School where he was recognized with an award for Outstanding Clinical Teaching.
Throughout his career Avery has received many professional and industry awards and accolades, including the Janssen Asia Pacific Innovation Award and Merck Research
Labs Award for Excellence. His research has been published in a variety of medical publications, including the
Journal of Biological Chemistry and the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism.
Outside of his role at Janssen, Avery is passionate about giving back to the community, and holds positions on the boards of the United Negro College Fund of New Jersey
and the Princeton Mercer Chamber of Commerce where he leads the COVID-19 Task Force. He is also a staunch advocate for anti-racism and racial equity and has lectured on these topics several times, most recently at the New Jersey Diversity & Inclusion Conference,
as well as at Johnson & Johnson’s own TED Talks.
