In an exclusive discussion, Maneesh Dangi, CEO and Founder of Mosaic Asset Management, shared his perspective on the potential impact of new RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra and the likelihood of rate cuts in 2025. Dangi projected a 100 basis points rate cut over the next year, though he emphasized that the RBI’s immediate priority might not be rate adjustments. Instead, he highlighted the challenges posed by the depreciating rupee, suggesting that currency competitiveness could serve as an initial stimulus for corporate India, especially manufacturing, while having a limited effect on services. Dangi pointed out the need for the RBI to relax its tight stance on unsecured financing, which has made access to funds challenging for smaller financiers. He argued that easing regulatory constraints and allowing the rupee to adjust freely should take precedence over rate cuts. Regarding the timing of rate cuts, Dangi advised caution, noting that global uncertainties—such as potential tariff impositions by the U.S.—might delay the RBI’s decision. While he acknowledged that rate cuts are inevitable in the medium term, he suggested that structural and regulatory adjustments would better support corporate India in the near term.
