Today we’re back on the springline again, this time with a village that oozes charm and character from pretty much every corner of its quiet rural setting. What I found intriguing in this one is how much the place has changed in such a short space of time. Take for example George Green’s garage which only fifty years ago looked so much different.

Another example would be the church, which was only reconstructed in the late 1800s but now lays redundant and deteriorating. The clock still works though which I guess is a bonus, and the churchyard remains neat and tidy for anyone who still wishes to pay it a visit.

Don’t trust Google Maps either, this one will fool you if you do. Google Maps claims you can walk around this one in a complete circle, but it’s not true. There is supposedly a lane which runs from near the church back towards Manor Lane, which simply does not exist. It is in fact a stream!

There’s a 17th century hall here which has a park with a cricket pitch. It looks pretty nice now, but as you’ll see in The Picture Bit, it has had better days. The pavilion looks a little worse for wear currently. That said, you can still get a feel for what life is like in such a small village along the springline on a summer’s day…which is exactly when this was filmed.

Thorpe in the Fallows was known as West Thorpe – this is it’s Eastern counterpart. This is East Thorpe, now referred to as AISTHORPE.
