This was a short 3 day backpacking trip into the lower Gulch in Utah's Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. I hike down canyon towards the Escalante River for a couple days before heading back to the trailhead as an out-and-back. Most of this route has no defined trail. A couple miles involves an off-trail overland route that climbs out of the canyon and then drops back in with a challenging exposed class 3 scramble in order to avoid a flooded slot canyon. This video is not meant to be used as a guide, but is mostly based on a route described by Mike Kelsey (book link below). Please respect our public lands and leave no trace.
