In this episode Mike Cooper (Managing Director of 1st Subsurface) takes us through a look at the Eastern Mediterranean. Focusing on an under-reported dispute primarily between Cyprus and Turkey who both claim maritime rights over the same waters and are both drilling in these claimed waters. Tensions are increasing as Turkey steps up its efforts drilling now in a block already awarded by Cyprus to major operators. This is ongoing while most news seems to be reporting the Turkey / Syria border dispute.
The surrounding waters have had several world class gas discoveries in the last few years including Zohr (Egypt), Leviathan (Israel), Tamar (Israel), Aphrodite (Cyprus) and Glaucus (Cyprus). The prospect of natural gas reserves is fuelling an ancient dispute, the Cyprus conflict.
