Adapted from a webinar recorded August 29, 2017, this video addresses the challenges that healthcare facilities may find when attempting to quantifying the impact of patient safety and quality improvement initiatives or build a business case for initiating such projects.
During this education, the Pennsylvania Patient Safety Authority demonstrates a standardized cost and mortality estimation methodology that they used to appraise the value of data aggregation, analysis, dissemination, and statewide collaborative learning to reduce healthcare-associated patient harm in Pennsylvania.
After viewing this education, participants should be able to do the following:
• Describe the method used to estimate lives and cost saved
• Identify a patient safety or quality initiative whose impact could be quantified by this method
• List a potential set of patient safety metrics to apply this method
