In late 1966, The Beatles were finally done touring and began avoiding the public spotlight. They also happened to start growing mustaches. Without a supply of fresh photos, the official fan magazine – The Beatles Monthly Book – found an alternative solution and started painting fake facial hair onto the band!
Please note that this video is *absolutely not* meant to be a criticism of The Beatles Book in any way! Their editor, Sean O'Mahony, along with photographer Leslie Bryce, provided some of the most high-quality exclusive Beatles content during the height of the band's popularity. This video is mostly just meant to be a "weird moment" that highlights The Beatles' general seclusion during this time period!
FYI: I specifically avoided mentioning any of that "Paul is Dead" crap, because the real reason for these photo edits is much more interesting. Also, why do conspiracy theorists conveniently leave out the fact that the rest of the band got the same "fake mustache" treatment? 😉
Either way...hope this is appropriate for No Shave November! Support the cause:
