Two essentials of crossbow maintenance are string wax and rail lube. Believe it or not people mix these two distinctly different substances up all the time. Accidentally (or purposely) putting string wax on your rail will cause all kinds of problems. Many times I have people bring me a crossbow that has exploded and I see string wax caked onto the rail.
