The United Nations Human Rights Council is getting closer to throwing out Libya because of the atrocities promoted by its government in recent weeks. Libya would be the first member ever to be expelled from this council. A decision on expelling Libya is expected later on Monday or on Tuesday in Geneva.

In a speech to the council on Monday, William Hague, British foreign secretary, said the response to the crisis in Libya both at the UN Security Council and at the Human rights Council has been remarkable.
"The international community came together in a way which it has not done before, setting aside differences in the face of a challenge to the very notion of what we commonly and instinctively regard as the basic rights of humankind," Mr Hague said, according to the Financial Times.
He added: "Together we have signalled that crimes will not be condoned, will not go unpunished and will not be forgotten. This is a warning to anyone contemplating violations of human rights in Libya or any other country: stay your hand. There will be a day of reckoning and the reach of international justice can be long."
Monday's council meeting is aimed at building international momentum against Col Gaddafi, warning him and his allies that they will be accountable to international justice for crimes they commit. Libya's formal expulsion is expected on Tuesday.
