Took my second ski lesson in Mammoth, California last month @mammothmountain ! Last year I took my first lesson at my big age and I was learning alongside literal toddlers 😂 I’m not mad tho, because it was such a freeing experience. While I’m still on ‘greens’, it felt so good to indulge in a long time interest. I’ve always known snowsports to be costly and it seemed like it was reserved for a certain class of people. Hell, if it wasn’t for the opportunities I get from this platform, its unlikely that I’d step foot on a ski or snowboard anytime soon. It doesn’t help that I personally don’t know any Black people who ski or snowboard and part of it could be the fact that I live in Texas but I’ve also spent enough time outdoors to know that we’re surely few and far between on the slopes. In my recent camping post, I shared the benefits of movement and nature for all, but especially Black people and POC in general. Whether it’s camping, hiking, or skiing, I hope more of us can get outdoors! Here’s to more time on the snow!
And YES, snow was(is?) still on the ground in Mammoth this summer! Crazy, right? @visitcalifornia
Drop your trips for beginner skiers! How can people cut back on costs? Any Black or POC skiers out there? If not, is it something you wanna try?
