Brené Brown’s insights on belonging have always resonated with me.
A few powerful reminders:
► You belong to yourself first and foremost. Even when you feel alone, remember you belong to you.
► It's easy to lose ourselves trying to belong in groups we don't truly fit into. But conformity robs us of belonging more than individuality ever could.
► Fitting in is the opposite of belonging. It means changing yourself to be accepted by others. And that is unsustainable.
► True belonging never asks you to change who you are - it demands you to be your authentic self.
When you warp yourself to fit in, you betray yourself to satisfy others. As Brown writes in 𝘽𝙧𝙖𝙫𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙒𝙞𝙡𝙙𝙚𝙧𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨, true belonging only emerges when you show up as an imperfect but genuine version of yourself.
I'm still working on standing unapologetically in my truth. But I know belonging begins with believing, as Brown says, that I belong to me.
What resonates most with you about belonging vs. fitting in? I'd love to hear your insights as we learn to show up fully as ourselves.
