Among the methods that archaeologists use in their attempts to understand how ancient sites were distributed in landscapes and how they interacted with one another are several that they adopted from geographers. These include Central Place Theory, Christalleran Settlement Lattices, Nearest-Neighbour Analysis, Rank-Size Analysis, and Determination of Fractal Dimension. This video briefly reviews these methods' basic principles and the assumptions and problems that archaeologists need to consider in their application and interpretation.
