We hiked to Horseshoe Bend in Page, Arizona. It is part of the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area and it is free to access. This hike is moderate with the first third of the hike on a sandy path going up steadily. Then, the path goes down but the sand is deeper and harder to walk in. There are no railings when reach the Horseshoe Bend and Colorado River viewpoints with 1,000 foot drop offs. The view is amazing.
It is very popular so there will be many people along the ridge. You need to walk a little to find a spot less crowded for your photo. For footwear, wearing good hiking shoes is best. It is a difficult hike for young children and people with walking disabilities.
Bring more water than you would, particularly on a hot day as there is no water or shade at all on the trail. There are pit toilets at the parking lot. Parking is free and there was a decent turnaround during Thanksgiving week 2017, though finding a spot required a bit of patience and luck. A police officer was ensuring there was no wild parking on US Route 89.
