Agriculture in India began in 9000BCE and has been at the core of its very existance as a civilization. With agriculture came the domestication of the animals and Ox is among the early beasts to be domesticated. Thus is came to worshiped and venerated.

Until the modern machinery came into being, these Ox served as the backbone for argriculture. Taking care of these animals is of upmost importance to any farmer. Thus the shoe is one of the ways to keep the hooves of these gentle beings fit and fine.

Though many places has completely replaced animals with machines, there are still some places where they are extensively used. Like this village in Mandya district of Karnataka state.
