Nawaz Sharif and PMLN leaders realize that they now face an "Existential Crisis". If election are held in May, as ordered by Supreme Court, it will expose their terribly weak position in Punjab where they may not get more than two dozen seats. PMLN's politics will be practically over for years to come. But if their war against Supreme Court succeeds, and the get rid of Chief Justice, Omar Ata Bandial then PMLN is back in game. It can force a new decision or delay through a new larger bench headed by their long time ally, Qazi Faez Isa.
But in the last 24-36 hours certain dynamics have created new hurdles in the way of PMLN's strategy. PPP's core committee arguing for a "New Consensus" inside PDM for talks with PTI and Qamar Z Kaira, clarifying, while talking with Tribune that PPP does not support PMLN demands of regination of Chief Justice or Reference against Chief Justice is an important development. It came after the NSC Meeting where Air Chief, Naval Chief and Chairman Joint Chiefs did not agree with PM Shahbaz's proposed Declaration against Elections despite efforts by Army Chief is significant. Bilawal and CM Sindh were present in the NSC Meeting. PPP had intelligently sensed that Armed Forces/Establishment is not united behind PM Shahabz and they have decided to distance themselves from PMLN's hard positions. What happens next remains to be seen!
