Marquette, Michigan has more than great craft brews, excellent restaurants, intense bike trails, gorgeous views, and one of the most celebrated recreational areas in the country.. Marquette has the Great Blue Heron as resident Island snowbirds.
I discovered this colony last summer, '21 when I was flying a search and rescue. In the midst of tragedy, I happened upon the nests, birds, and even at least one unhatched egg.. and it was late July.
I do not know a lot about this gorgeous bird. I have discovered the long neck extension and feather puffing is part of their courting/bonding. Even thinking about it as I write the description, I am warm and on the verge of inspired tears.
I have fallen in love with the Great Blue Heron. Just one of the variety of wildlife you could see when you come for a visit.
