This young, male wolf was caught in a pee post set that was targeting gray fox. I would estimate from my experience that this wolf is a yearling and weighs 60-65 pounds. The trap is a #2 Bridger foothold, it is fully modified, which means that it has a gap in between the jaws and extra material to ensure that the animal's foot isn't harmed in any way (please refer to other videos where I put my own hand in this same trap). There is also an in-line shock spring on the chain that absorbs the wolf's energy so that his leg muscles/joints are not harmed in any way.
In Wisconsin, our wolf season isn't until November 2021, so this wolf had to be released. In Wisconsin, we can legally trap furbearers like fox and coyotes, from October to February. This trap was set for coyotes and fox, but due to the explosion in bobcat and wolf populations in the state over the last decade, it is impossible to avoid catching these animals.
Because of this, I use extremely expensive, modified, modern traps that provide for the best comfort while the animal is held in the trap, then allow me to release them easily without any harm done.
