Travel expert Simon Calder explains uncertainties of HS2 completion.
"HS2 is currently on pause" said Mr Calder, "the uncertainty about whether even the Northwestern leg to Crewe and to Manchester will go ahead and this is a project which is thoroughly botched."
"From an economic and a social point of view, it has to be built in full. It's only when you got the full benefits of the line to the Northeast and to the Northwest that it becomes worth having a high speed link from Birmingham to London Euston."
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak refused on Tuesday to end speculation about the future of Britain's HS2 high-speed railway project, saying he was still considering whether to scrap or delay construction of the northern leg of the train line.
