Kepa Arrizabalaga was officially presented as a Real Madrid goalkeeper on Tuesday, after the Spain international completed a season-long loan deal from English Premier League side Chelsea.
Kepa's arrival makes up for the absence of regular starter Thibaut Courtois, who tore a ligament in his left knee last week and will be sidelined for a lengthy period.
One of the clubs who had negotiated with Kepa - during what the 28-year-old described as an "intense" few days - were German giants Bayern Munich, who were attempting to find a replacement for the injured Manuel Neuer.
Kepa became the world’s most expensive goalkeeper when he joined Chelsea for 80 million Euros (then 93 million US dollars) in 2018 and he has since won the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup at Stamford Bridge.
The Spanish goalkeeper had already been linked with a move to Real at the time he signed for Chelsea, but eventually made it to England while Courtois left the West London club and signed with Madrid.
Kepa wished a speedy recovery to Courtois and the two other Real players who recently sustained knee injuries - defender Eder Militao and midfielder Arda Guler.
He will fight for a starting position with Ukrainian team-mate Andriy Lunin - the long-time reserve for Courtois, who started in Real's 2-0 win at Athletic Bilbao in the team’s Spanish La Liga opening match on Saturday.
Real's next game will be away to Almeria in La Liga on Saturday.
