Here we are at EP 31 of Missle Industries and I’m revisiting something I started back in April while I was doing the rust repair part of this project. Since the car came to my garage none of the doors shut easily which was probably attributed to the aftermarket rubber kit that the car has already had installed.
Both front doors needed to come off during the course of the body work and I’ve managed to rehang them so they shut but the rear passengers side door which hasn’t been off at all hasn’t wanted to cooperate. After changing the alignment at the hinges without any improvement I moved my attention to the door rubbers, removing them made no difference so I focused on the striker plate.
At first I observed that the pin was moving in the housing so I pulled the striker out and welded it up while I had all my welding gear out. Still no improvement, so as time is precious and there was so much else to do I shelved this problem for another day. That day was today. The time to get this car roadworthy inspected is rapidly approaching so the doors need to shut!
In summary I removed a spacer plate and repositioned the door pin until the door would sit flush and shut, it just needed some time and some trial and error. I also needed to realise that even if the door still pushed in a little but it looked shut, it was shut down to the second strike plate in the lock!
