The Johor ruler, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar, will be Malaysia's next king. He was elected by the country's Conference of Rulers in a special meeting, and will ascend the throne in January. The outspoken 65-year-old has been the sovereign ruler of his state since 2010 and adored by Johoreans. Malaysia practises a unique rotational monarchy system whereby nine rulers take turns to helm the federal throne for a five-year term. Political analysts said the new king will have his work cut out to maintain political stability and social cohesiveness in the country. Melissa Goh reports.
