It is widely believed that Victor Vaughen Morris, invented the pisco sour. Born in Salt Lake City, he traveled to Peru to work for the Cerro de Pasco Railway Company in 1903. In 1915, he moved to Lima and founded Morris' Bar. Located in downtown Lima, Morris' Bar served as a gathering spot for the Peruvian upper class and English-speaking foreigners. The widespread belief is that Morris invented the pisco sour at this bar.
However, this cookbook, Nuevo Manual de Cocina a la Criolla (Lima, 1903), suggests that the origin of the Pisco Sour may be a traditional creole cocktail made in Lima over 100 years ago. Watch our video to learn more about the subject.
