Arjun was born into a Kannada family. His family has a cinematic background. His father Shakti Prasad is a Kannada film actor. Mother Lakshmi is a teacher. Arjun's brother Kishore is a Kannada director.
Arjun was married to Nivedita in 1988. Arjun has two daughters. First daughter Aishwarya Arjun is playing the heroine in the movie. She made her Tamil debut in the film Pattathuyana opposite actor Vishal. Arjun's second daughter Anjana Arjun and his wife often did not come out.
Arjun learned karate at the age of 16 from Bruce Lee's Enter the Dragon in 1973. He has mostly acted in action movies. Even so, owning one is still beyond the reach of the average person.He made his screen debut as the protagonist of the 1981 film 'Simmatha Mari Sainya'. In 1984, he made his debut in the Tamil film industry as one of the two heroes of the film 'Nandi' directed by Ramanarayanan.In 1993, Arjun played the lead role in director Shankar's debut film 'Gentleman'. The film was a huge success and took Arjun to great heights in his screen career.
'Muthalvan', first produced and directed by Shankar in 1999, is arguably the pinnacle of Arjun's screen career. They sought Arjun to refuse to act in this story which was written with Rajinikanth in mind. Arjun was a perfect match for the need of the story and the character to the extent that those who saw the film could not even think of anyone other than Arjun in the character.
Arjun has been successful in South Indian cinema for forty years with all these specialties. The world famous reality show 'Survivor' is being telecast in Tamil on 'Zee' Tamil TV. Actor Arjun is making his debut as a presenter through this show.
