The pyshka (пышка, Russia's most common donut) is a beloved, nostalgic treat here in Russia. Where is the best place in St. Petersburg to try one? We recommend Zhelyabova 25 (Желябова 25, aka Cafe Pyschechnaya), an iconic, Soviet-era cafe on Bolshaya Konyushennaya St. whose popularity and cultural importance has led to its protected status with the city government. Locals and tourists alike love to come here for a cheap and quick pyshka! This cafe has been in business since 1958. During the 2020 COVID pandemic, in-person dining was limited and patrons were expected to not hang around too long to keep the line moving.
