Srikalahasti is a famous Shiva temple in Andhra Pradesh, 40 kms from Tirupati. Many people call it as the Kailash of South.Vayu is incarnated as Lord Shiva and worshiped as Kalahasteeswara.
There is free darshan and ticketed darshan (Rs 50/- and more). Free darshan will have a longer queue than ticketed darshan. However, we had no waiting in free darshan as everybody went for ticketed darshan. People do Rahu Ketu Puja here by paying a fee. Rahu Ketu Pooja Ticket Prices: Rs.500, Rs.750, Rs. 1500, Rs. 2500, Rs.5000.
This temple has a great architecture, the inner temple was constructed around 5th century and the outer temple was constructed in the 12th Century by the Chola kings and the Vijayanagara kings.
After visiting Srikalahasti temple we went to Kannappa temple. Bhakta Kannappa Temple is located on a small hill near Srikalahasti temple. Bhakta Kannappa, a tribal youth, was a devotee of Lord Shiva and gave his eyes to the Lord Shiva idol in the temple. This temple is made respecting the devotion of Bhakta Kannappa.
You have to start from the side of Srikalahasti temple. There are 325 steps to climb, around half kilometer, which will take 20-30 minutes depending on your climbing strength. You should keep atleast one hour in hand to go to this place. You can get a good view of the temple, the river, the township etc. from the top of the hill.
