China's aero-engine manufacturer has unveiled its new two dimensional vector thrust nozzles at the Zhuhai Air Show 2022, which could greatly improve the maneuverability of the J-20 and J-35 fighter jets.
Let’s take a look at a live demonstration of the nozzle.
The vector thrust design can generate direct control force for the fighter to change flight status, improve maneuverability, and also improve takeoff and landing capabilities. The two dimensional nozzle has the advantages of low resistance, effective covering engine nozzle and improving stealth. But the thrust loss of three dimensional nozzle is relatively small. Therefore both designs have advantages and disadvantages.
China has already demonstrated a three dimensional vector-thrust nozzles on a J-10B, and it looks like a two dimensional nozzles will soon be deployed.
