The Indian Prime Minister has held a crisis meeting with senior officials following the apparent coup in Pakistan.
A spokesman for Atal Bihari Vajpayee said events in Islamabad were causing deep concern..
Vajpayee was expected to hold talks with his defence minister, foreign minister and national security advisor.

"These reports emanating from Islamabad are a matter of great concern. We are watching the situation. The cabinet committee on security will meet tomorrow, soon after the swearing in of the new government and will consider the developments in Pakistan. The Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee is keeping himself fully abreast of the latest developments in Islamabad. He is in constant touch with the Indian mission. All members of the Indian mission are safe."
