Under the baton and artistic direction of conductor Jasmina Vučurović, Kir Stefan the Serb Choir celebrates its seventeenth concert season. The program for this concert, as it has become the tradition, includes both sacred and traditional music.
The first part of the concert is dedicated to the Slavic Orthodox music. The Choir performs the Old Serbian Orthodox Chants of Kir Stefan the Serb from the XV Century, as well as the works of XIX, XX and XXI Century Serbian composers. The classical works of Russian composers, also performed this evening, add a rich element of sacred Slavic musical heritage to the program.
Uplifting rhythms and original harmonies of folk melodies of the Balkans have inspired composers through generations. The second part of the program presents secular music based on folk melodies of the Balkans, specifically from central and southern Serbia, as well as from Macedonia, Bulgaria and Russia.
