Homily (begins at 15:52)
Friends, in his deceptively thin and simple book "Prayer - Our Deepest Longing" Fr Ron Rolheiser tells the story of a Jewish farmer out in the fields who cannot make it back to the village by the beginning of the Sabbath. Upon his return, he is met by the anxious Rabbi who tells him that he was careless. He says to him "I hope you prayed!" The poor, simple farmer responds: "I don't know how to pray so I recited the alphabet over and over all night and let God write the words."
