Former Australian basketballer Andrew Bogut says Basketball Australia's handling of Liz Cambage’s pre-Olympic incident involving Nigerian players “is going to set a bad precedent” for future indiscretions of other players.
Ms Cambage was only issued an official reprimand for the incident which took place ahead of the Tokyo Olympics and Basketball Australia has refused to reveal what she said to the Nigerian players.
“This is going to set a bad precedent for future indiscretions by other players in my opinion,” Mr Bogut told Sky News host Andrew Bolt.
“Meaning that if I’m representing a player - as a lawyer or an agent - that says something abysmal in five years' time, in 10 years' time, I’m just printing out this little rap sheet; the independent panel, the reprimand and I’m saying this is what my athlete, my client, that’s what he’ll take.
“He'll take that small little reprimand, slap on the wrist and get on with life.”
