Amanda Blackburn, the pregnant wife of a Indianapolis pastor, died after being taken off life support on November 12, 2015, two days after being shot in what authorities believe was a home invasion robbery.
At around 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Pastor Blackburn returned home from a local fitness center to find his wife gravely wounded with a gunshot wound to the head. Emergency medical personnel transported Amanda Blackburn to IU Health Methodist Hospital, where she died on Thursday. Her organs were donated in accordance with her wishes.
The couple lived in a home in the 2800 block of Sunnyfield Court near 38th Street and West Kessler Boulevard North Drive in Indianapolis. Authorities say a separate break-in was reported along the same block three hours before Amanda was discovered shot. It’s unknown at this point if the two crimes were related.
Pastor Blackburn was quickly ruled out as a suspect after investigators found time-stamped video proving his claims that he was at the gym at the time of the crime.
The couple’s young son Weston was at home when his mother was shot, but he was not injured.
Davey and Amanda Blackburn moved to Indianapolis from South Carolina in 2012 to found Resonate Church, which, according to its website, has a mission to reach out to those who don’t normally “connect with a church.” Amanda Blackburn, 28, was 12-weeks pregnant with the couple’s second child when she was killed.
Indianapolis authorities have offered a thousand-dollar reward for information leading to a suspect. A Blackburn Family Support Fund has been set up to assist the family following Amanda’s passing.
