Gaddi Baithak, located inside the Hanumandhoka Durbar complex, is an ancient monument with political and historical significance. This building was built in the year 1965 B.S. (1908 A.D.) during the time of the Rana Prime
Minister Chandra Shamsher. The building was used to present credentials of diplomats as well as to meet foreign high-ranking officials by the Shah kings. This is a neo- classical style building can be viewed as an open museum.
On the special occasion of Indrajatra, from the outer veranda of this building, the chariot of Shree Ganesh, Shree Kumari and Shree Bhairav, which are taken out on this day, is observed by the Head of the nation, Prime Minister including foreign delegates. The building has been renovated by the Government of Nepal and the US Ambassador's Fund as most parts of the building were damaged by the devastating earthquake on 25th April 2015.
Documents with photographs depicting the political and historical events from the Valley Unificațion, Campaign launched by king Prithvinarayan Shah to the Republic of Nepal and the weapons used by Prithvinarayan Shah are on display on the ground floor of the Gaddi Baithak which is now open for public.
