Police have affirmed that the illegal miners in Stilfontein are not trapped underground. This after 14 illegal miners including a 14-year-old boy resurfaced and were arrested at shaft 10 last night which is linked to shaft 11 where hundreds are believed to still be underground.
National police spokesperson, Athlenda Mathe says others ran back into the shaft when they noticed the police presence.
Mathe says their suspicions that some of them are heavily armed have been confirmed.
