Some gasoline engines — especially EcoBoost engines — can experience a condition called pre-ignition, when combustion occurs before the spark plug fires. Pre-ignition can cause engine knock, or in extreme cases, even lead to a loss of performance or engine damage.
One way to help prevent pre-ignition is to use motor oil formulated for that purpose. To do that, Ford has released new oil specifications and is producing new Motorcraft oils meeting these specs in three different viscosities, 5W20, 5W30 and 0W20. This video has been updated to reflect the most up-to-date information about Motorcraft oil specs.
