With the theme, "Building on the Past; Looking to the Future of Nursing," the Rutgers School of Nursing Alumni Association (RSONAA) is hosting its 2022 celebrations recognizing the achievements of extraordinary nursing alumni, saluting nursing students, and raising funds to support nursing scholarships.
Our theme, and the vintage tech approach to the event videos, underscore Rutgers' rich history of nursing excellence that spans more than 60 years since the nursing education program was established in 1952 at Rutgers in Newark. While celebrating the past, RSONAA reaffirms its commitment to advancing nursing in times to come.
This year's celebrations began with the Alumni Awards Dinner 2022, held on April 14, as a prelude to our Virtual Gala presentation, launched with a virtual toast on Facebook Live on May 5. In

Charles Vannoy, a senior hospital executive at Valley Health System, received the 2022 Outstanding Alumni Award. Marika Haranis of Inova Health System, an emerging leader in palliative care, received the 2022 Rising Star Alumni Award. The inaugural Dean’s Award for Lifetime Achievement was presented to legendary nurse leaders Dula Pacquiao and Beverly Whipple, both professors emerita at Rutgers School of Nursing and graduates of Rutgers University.
RSONAA also presented scholarships to 13 deserving Rutgers nursing students.
As many School of Nursing students are facing major economic challenges, the RSONAA has set a lofty goal this year to raise $10,000 in scholarship funds for Rutgers nurses of tomorrow. The association is suggesting a donation of $25 per virtual guest, with larger gifts and sponsorships welcomed from those who are able to give more.
