Hello Everyone, my latest railway journey has taken me to South Lanarkshire in Scotland for the very first time. First up was Carstairs Station. The junction at Carstairs is a key section of the West Coast Main Line linking Glasgow and Edinburgh to London. The video features a variety of passenger and freight services along with a Crossrail Rail Grinder which had come all the way from Tay Bridge. The station was temporarily closed between 4th March and 30th May 2023 as part of a major upgrade to the junction costing over £160m to make it more reliable and better able to cope with future passenger and freight demands. New track sections, overhead lines, signalling, and telecom systems were installed, along with improvements to the station platforms, embankments, and drainage systems across the site. Whilst on site I was able to fully appreciate the impact that these improvements are making at what is one of the most critical section of the Scottish Rail network. On the way home from Carstairs I stopped off briefly at Lanark Station. The station opened in 1855 as the terminus of a short branch line off the West Coast Main Line and also forms the terminus of the Argyle Line. The line serves the commercial and shopping districts of Glasgow’s central area, and connects towns from West Dunbartonshire to South Lanarkshire. I hope you enjoy the video.
