Maybe the most impressive Belgian performance at the World Youth Championship 2015 came from Aiko in his second qualification. Before this competition Aiko entered only once the top 20 on European level. After a long day of qualifications Aiko was one of the last competitors in his category (78 participants). A whole day long waiting isn’t really the most ideal preparation for a route. Fatigue and stress build up throughout the day and the Italian heath doesn’t really help. Some time before Aiko had to climb the rain started pouring down and most of the spectators and climbers who had finished left. Aiko didn’t mind and with the support of all those loyal Belgian fans (yes, they stayed) he climbed steadily to his highpoint ending 9th of the world in this second qualification round.
N.B. : As steady as he climbed, as unstable is the camera. Sorry but the rain didn’t make it easy ;-)
