The traditional Severn Valley Railway Galas are back! After a successful mellow version of their 'Spring Gala' last year, the freedom was restored for the organisers to put on a show over the weekend of the 21st - 24th April.
With 3 guest engines and a new resident taking centre stage, a greatly welcomed extensive timetable was reintroduced for the event. As well as featuring the usual full line trips, the popular local trains were also reinstated across the weekend.
Making it's first appearance away from home this ticket, S15 506 featured alongside Saint Class 2999 'Lady of Legend' (returning after last years Spring Gala appearance), with undoubtedly the star of the show being 4498 'Sir Nigel Gresley' making it's first public appearance after it's recently completed overhaul. An interesting attraction was the appearance of Austerity 71516 'Welsh Guardsman', which was making it's debut as an SVR resident. Panniers 1501 & 7714, Port Talbert Tank 813 and Standard 4MT 75069 from the home fleet, completed the loco line up for the weekend.
I managed to attend the first three out of days of the event, with the weather being typically awkward throughout. While staying dry, the sun was being rather shy on occasions. However there were many spectacular moments throughout the weekend, and it was up there with some of the best events on my list. Hope you enjoy!
