Alberta Premier Jason Kenney and Alberta's chief medical officer Dr. Deena Hinshaw held a briefing Monday afternoon, detailing the province's efforts to stop the spread of the novel coronavirus.
The province recorded 98 new cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours bringing the total number of confirmed cases in Alberta to 1,348.
The province has recorded one additional death connected to COVID-19, Kenney added. The victim is an 81-year-old woman who had been living at McKenzie Towne Continuing Care Centre in Calgary, marking the facility’s 11th death in relation to the novel coronavirus.
Still, the premier said the number of hospitalizations due to the virus “remains low and manageable,” with 40 people currently in hospital, 16 of which are in intensive care. Kenney said the lower number of hospitalizations is one of the most encouraging signs on Alberta’s approach.
