Operation Market Garden, launched in September 1944, was a daring Allied offensive during World War II, aimed at securing key bridges in the Netherlands for a rapid advance into Germany. This ambitious plan combined airborne forces and ground troops to create a strategic corridor from Eindhoven to Arnhem. However, the operation faltered at the Arnhem bridge, famously known as the "bridge too far," where British paratroopers could not secure the vital crossing over the Rhine. The failure forced a retreat, with troops consolidating their defence around the church in Oosterbeek. Amidst the fierce battle, Kate ter Horst, the "Angel of Arnhem," became a symbol of resilience, transforming her home into a makeshift hospital to care for the wounded. Her acts of bravery and compassion amidst the chaos of war have become a lasting legacy.
