Black Mesa is remake of classic Half-Life first-person shooter developed by Valve Corporation and released by Sierra Entertainment in 1998. Project Black Mesa Source was started in 2004 by Crowbar Collective team, to make reasonable remake of Half-Life using full advantage of Source Engine after Half-Life Source disappointment (it was just lazy port of Half-Life to newer engine). First release of Black Mesa was in 2012 as freeware mod for Half-Life 2. Later Valve was interested with this project and in 2015 game was available on Steam in Early Access mode. Game was finished in 2020 with brand new Xen levels who are drastically different than in original game. Latest update called Black Mesa 1.5 Definitive Edition is last big update of this game, which much improves visuals of the game and game mechanics. As Black Mesa being remake of Half-Life, we of course play as scientist Dr Gordon Freeman who after failed experiment has to fight with aliens and US army.


I decided to revisit this game, because this final version looks really beautiful, developers pushed old Source engine to the limits, in the same time improving overall optimization. I think it was worth to wait all these years to play full version of this game. Enjoy yourself.
