This project expands the FTTH coverage at very rural areas of Lower Austria. After successfully implementing the pilot phase and connecting 20.000 households, “nöGIG Phase 2” will secure the deployment to additional 100.000 households. The project managed to attract private capital to the rural area by using a three-layer open business model, which allows non-discriminatory network access and competition at the service providers’ level. This project was a finalist at the 2019 European Broadband Awards.
