10 May 2024 was celebrated as 'Basava Jayanti' or the birth anniversary of Saint Basaveshwara. Basaveshwara or Basavanna was one of the most prolific social and religious reformers of India. He lived in the 12th century in Karnataka and spread his messages of Ahimsa, opposition to discrimination and superstitions through poetry known as Vachanas of Basavanna.
