May 16, 2022 — Asia Society and Asia Society Policy Institute President Kevin Rudd introduces a new high-level policy commission dedicated to accelerating Asia's transition to "net zero," where the amount of greenhouse gases emitted in the atmosphere is negated by emission reductions and carbon absorption.
The commission, which Rudd will lead, brings together a number of prominent political, business, financial, and civil society leaders. They include former United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon, former President of the Marshall Islands and convener of the High Ambition Coalition Hilda Heine, Japanese Member of Parliament and former minister Kono Taro, Indonesian businessman and former minister of finance Muhamad Chatib Basri, World Economic Forum Managing Director Neo Gim Huay, Columbia University Professor and former Vice Chairman of Niti Aayong Arvind Panagariya, the International Finance Corporation's Director and Global Head of Climate Business Vivek Pathak, and former French Climate Ambassador Laurence Tubiana.
The commission will work in consultation with governments in the region to produce in-depth reports on a number of national jurisdictions, beginning with India and Indonesia.
