The Millennium Cross, the fifth largest cross in the world, is located on the peak of Krstovar on Mount Vodno, directly above the city of Skopje, in the village of Gorno Nerezi. It was built in 2002. At 66 m high, it is one of the tallest buildings in Macedonia.
It was built in honor of two thousand years of Christianity in Macedonia and the arrival of the new millennium.
There was a stone cross on this spot in the past, which is why the peak was named Krstovar – “the place of the cross”.
The Millennium Cross is made of steel and is located 66 meters above sea level, with a width of 46 meters. It consists of 33 levels, each level 2 meters high, which symbolize the years of Jesus Christ.
Today it is one of the tallest buildings in Macedonia.
An elevator was installed inside the Cross on the Independence Day of Macedonia in 2008.
