Our Holland America Westerdam cruise stopped in two Taiwan cities: Hualien and Keelung. In Hualien we took a ship excursion to Taroko Gorge since public transport was not ideal to visit the different areas of the gorge. From Hualien we took a train into Taipei and then the metro. It was super convenient and very affordable. While waiting for Taipei 101 Observatory to open we decided to climb Elephant mountain. It was not easy but the view from the top was awesome and we met some very nice Taiwanese people along the way. We really loved Taiwan and we will make plans to go back later this year. You should add it to your travel plans!
